Radiological Risk Assessment of Vehicle Transport Accidents Associated with Consumer Products Containing Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials

چکیده
Natural and artificial ionizing radiation can be harmful to human health when they come into contact with people the environment. Transport of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs) consumer products containing NORM in public domain is inevitable owing their potential applications. This study evaluates dose risk from transport accidents products. Radiological physical data were obtained previous literature. The median maximum values radioactivity concentration applied data, which serve as an input. An external rate at 1 m a transported shipment was calculated using Microshield® Pro version 12.11 code, serves input RADTRAN 6 code. Based on developed accident scenarios, code used estimate collective risk. sensitivity analysis conducted by considering variation release, aerosol, respirable fractions radionuclides 0.1%, 1%, 10%, 100% during accident, respectively. results general because damage container following fire are below annual regulatory limits man-Sv recommended IAEA regulation 2018. all NORMs associated also limits. Therefore, radiological safety ensured event involving transit NORM.

Radiological Risk due to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials in the Soil of Al-Samawah Desert, Al-Muthanna Governorate, Iraq
Introduction: The risk of radioactivity addresses human life directly. The natural rock radioactivity is mainly due to 232Th, 238U), and 40K series. Activities involving blasting, crushing, and processing of rocks into numerous pieces lead to release of radionuclides into the atmosphere in the form of dust particles. M...
متن کاملNaturally-Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM)
Over the years there have been many occasions when it was asserted that coal-fired power stations emitted more radioactivity (from NORM) than was released anywhere in the nuclear fuel cycle. While having some basis in fact the claim is generally not correct now. Today the contention regarding NORM tends to be in relation to steel and other materials released from demolished industrial facilitie...

The main issue in view of NORM-impacted sites 1 is how such sites, e.g. radium contaminated sites, uranium liabilities, sites exploited for the mining of metals associated with NORM and wastes arising from industries processing or generating other kinds of NORM, are assessed and regulated. In view of the implementation of the new Basic Safety Standards (BSS), the regulations apply to the manage...
متن کاملRadiological dose assessment of naturally occurring radioactive materials generated by the petroleum industry in wildlife: A case study of chinkaras of Lavan Island, Iran
Human activities such as oil and gas production can enhance the natural level of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) in by-product and waste streams. Iran has been among the top five oil producing countries since 2005. This high production rate emphasizes the importance of NORM management to ensure the safety of humans and wildlife. Petroleum storage and transport facilities are lo...
متن کاملRadiological protection in North American naturally occurring radioactive material industries.
All soils and rocks contain naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM). Many ores and raw materials contain relatively high levels of natural radionuclides, and processing such materials can further increase the concentrations of natural radionuclides, sometimes referred to as 'technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material' (TENORM). Examples of NORM minerals include ur...
